When you hit your limit

You're mid-refactor and the agent taps out. Here's what to do.

Switch to another plan you already pay for
Most people have two of these. Check the reset windows and rotate.

Pay-as-you-go API via a router
Point your agent at an API key and pay per token until your plan resets. Pricier per hour, but no wall.

Run a local model
Slower and dumber, but it never says "try again later."

Free tier. Unlimited. Resets daily.

When does my limit reset?

CodexPlus and Business use a 5-hour window plus a weekly limit. Pro tiers drop the 5-hour limit and use a weekly allowance. OpenAI publishes estimate ranges, not hard caps.
Claude CodeUsage resets on a rolling 5-hour session, with weekly limits layered on top. Anthropic publishes multipliers (5x, 20x) rather than absolute caps.
Cursor (+ Grok)The current Cursor + Grok + X bundle (Plus, Premium, Super, Ultra) uses pooled usage that refreshes weekly. Legacy Pro/Pro+ reset details are unknown.
GitHub CopilotCopilot is credit-based and credits reset monthly.
Gemini Code Assist / CLIGemini Code Assist Standard/Enterprise quotas reset daily (Google Cloud quota reset). Free Gemini CLI quotas are currently unknown here (the official page failed to load when we checked).
